NSYS immediately began conducting the Fraternity’s established social service programs specific to the needs of Philadelphia youth ages 6 through 17. Some of these original programs included the SIGMA BETA CLUBS of PHILADELPHIA, the SIGMA SUMMER EMPLOYMENT and ENRICHMENT PROJECT, AIDS AWARENESS, ASSAULT ON ILLITERACY PROJECT and the SIGMA ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION. Since our inception in 1992, we have added several dynamic programs. These programs included the following: the ADOLESCENT HEALTH INITIATIVE, LADIES FIRST, LADIES FIRST, Jr., the LEADERSHIP ACADEMIES of PHILADELPHIA, the NU SIGMA BEACONS at Jay Cooke Middle School and Benjamin Franklin High School, the UMOJA BOYS CLUB and most recently the ATIYA V. ABNEY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE for females. All of our programs are operated by African American males, both from the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and community volunteers...concerned citizens who recognize and understand the problems facing African American youth. Today, we are still growing by leaps and bounds, but our work is far from over. As a concerned African American Male, I am asking that you join in us in our battle to not only save the lives of our youth, but to assist them in becoming the best that this city has to offer. My staff and I look forward to working with each of you to accomplish our mission.
